La Cañada de la Virgen Pyramid in Guanajuato, Mexico

I arrived in San Miguel de Allende in Guanajuato, Mexico on Friday. On Sunday, I struck out on my first adventure which took the form of a delightful tour of the archaeological site of the La Cañada de la Virgen pyramid. The site is about 45 minutes to the west of San Miguel and my travel companions were Ken Rowland, Chief Instructor of Aikido of San Miguel, and a friend Paul.

It was a wonderful tour as we were under the expert guidance of American archaelogist Albert Coffee. This man has an encyclopedic knowledge of Mesoamerican culture, and I was totally captivated by his incredibly detailed and passionate presentation. We truly entered into a different world and an ancient culture, quite possibly with roots in Asia stemming back beyond recorded history. Here is a sample of the sort of content we were exposed to.
