Free PDF Download: Koichi Tohei’s Letter of Resignation from the Aikikai Hombu Dojo dated May 15, 1974

On May 15, 1974, he sent a widely-distributed letter in Japanese and English versions to hundreds of dojo heads in Japan and abroad explaining the reasons for his severance of ties with the Aikikai Hombu Dojo. This letter, in which Tohei details his reasons for leaving the Aikikai, has only been seen by a few people over the years and has largely been forgotten.     I was very interested to see this photo turn up, which I took in Goleta, CA in April 1970 when I was a student of Kenji Ota at the Cultural School, and photography student at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara. I am happy to contribute to the legacy of Tohei Sensei with this image and would only ask that a photo credit is given when the image is used.
