Breaking uke’s balance is a critical part of the successful application of aikido techniques. In the case of kotegaeshi, this is achieved first by blending with your partner’s attack, stepping off the attack line, then moving to uke’s rear. There you will find a “tipping point” at which uke’s balance is taken. From this point onward, little or no pressure on the wrist is required to complete the throw.
