    All to often many students do not see the practicality of Aikido as a martial art that can be used in self defense because the attacks do not seem to mimic real strikes. When was the last time a Shomenuchi blow was executed in a fight in the UFC or MMA. Jabs and tsuki’s are not executed in a realistic attack. I know that speed and power will come from executing techniques first in static and then transitioning into dynamic movement but many of the videos show a tsuki as more of an arm extension rather than a blow.
