“Minimalism,” by Sean Ashby

“I think I’m going to add another dimension to the subjects about which I ruminate on this blog. In short, ‘minimalism’.

Allow me to explain. What, you may wonder, does ‘minimalism’ have to do with budo, which is, after all, the focus of this blog? Maybe nothing. But then, maybe it does, if even in a broad, general sense.”

  1. I think Mr Ashby missed an aspect of “minimalism” and Budo. Onre of the more challenging exercises for an Aikideshi is to act as shite and be forbidden to move his or her feet at all. “Your feet are frozen in cemnet. You cannot take a step. Deal with it.” This is Aiki minimalism, and not for beginners!
