From Ellis Amdur: New website on Toda-ha Buko-ryu

To my friends and associates. I’ve just uploaded a new website that centers around Toda-ha Buko-ryu. It is in a process of continuing development, so things will change as I get more historical information, etc.

“Toda-ha Buko-ryu is a martial tradition which specializes in the use of the naginata. It’s highest teachings center around the kagitsuki naginata, a weapon with a small cross-bar, against both sword and spear.”

Congratulations to you, Ellis on the new website. It looks to be very well done, and it will be interesting to check out all the info there. This is the type of transmission that would benefit those interested many other forms of Budo as well, and hopefully your lead will be followed by others.

  2. …interesting! Musashi opined that the spear allowed more offensive moves. Patton changed the US Cavalry saber from curved to straight for the same reason. Richard Burton, was a saber man, but don’t know whether he preferred straight (Hungarian) or the more commonly visualized curved blade.
