“Aikido Pioneers-Prewar Era” cover: A community effort!

A NEW WAY TO DESIGN A BOOK COVER!

We are very pleased to have launched our latest book titled Aikido Pioneers-Prewar Era by Stanley Pranin. We feel that one of the most attractive points of the new book–apart from its wonderful content–is the lovely cover that graces this volume. The cover is the creation of a talented designer from Portugal named João Tinoco. When he first contacted us, João submitted several links to examples of his work. Needless to say, we were duly impressed. Here are some of them…

By the way, we have it on good authority that the author, Stanley Pranin, has plenty of material to do a second volume of Aikido Pioneers featuring many famous senseis from the postwar era. If like what you see, and if you think this sort of work is of value to the aikido community, please support our efforts!

A LOOK BEHIND THE SCENES…

You may recall how the process of the creation of the book cover came about. About two months ago, we put out a call to the aikido community for interested designers to submit sample designs for the cover. To our great surprise, we had over 20 submissions, many of them fully worthy of being selected as the final cover. We would like to express our appreciation for the outstanding efforts of the many participants by showing you some samples of their submissions. Take a look at the great material we had to work with…
